A complete guide to expanded PVC foam sheet — how it is made, key properties, common brand names, and how to choose the right grade for your project.
PVC foam board — also known as expanded PVC sheet, foam PVC board, or rigid PVC foam — is a lightweight structural panel made from polyvinyl chloride with a closed-cell foam core. During manufacturing, a chemical foaming agent is compounded into the PVC resin. As the material is extruded, controlled expansion creates millions of fine, uniform gas cells throughout the sheet. The result is a rigid, smooth-surfaced board that is significantly lighter than solid PVC while retaining excellent mechanical and chemical performance. Well-known trade names such as Forex (3A Composites), Sintra (Vycom), Komatex (Kommerling), Celtec (Vycom), and Palight (Palram) are all proprietary names for this same material — sold at European brand premiums. JINYOU manufactures a fully equivalent product in China at factory-direct pricing.
PVC melt extruded with foaming agent produces a uniform cell structure throughout the entire board. Density 0.40–0.55 g/cm³. Slightly softer surface. Best for advertising displays, large-format printing substrates, signage, and exhibition panels where light weight and printability matter most.
A dense, solid PVC skin is co-extruded simultaneously over the foam core. Produces harder surface, superior screw-holding, and scratch resistance. Density 0.60–0.80 g/cm³. Preferred for furniture panels, bathroom cabinetry, marine interiors, and any application demanding a durable finished surface.
Choosing the right thickness depends on your application, required rigidity, and whether the board will be load-bearing. Use this guide to select the correct foam PVC sheet grade.
* Weight based on standard free foam grade density (0.55 g/cm³). Celuka (co-extruded) grades are approximately 15–25% heavier.

How does expanded PVC foam sheet compare to MDF, plywood, and aluminum composite panel? A direct comparison across the criteria that matter most to buyers.
We manufacture PVC foam board from 1mm to 25mm. Common stock thicknesses include 3, 5, 8, 10, 15, and 20mm. Custom thicknesses are available for large orders.
Standard MOQ is 1,000 m² per color/thickness. Smaller trial orders are accepted from 200 m². Custom colors have a MOQ of 2,000 m².
Standard sizes are 1220×2440mm (4×8 ft) and 2050×3050mm. Custom cut-to-size is available. Contact us for pricing on non-standard dimensions.
Yes. Water absorption is less than 0.5%. Suitable for bathrooms, outdoor signage, and marine applications where moisture resistance is essential.
Yes. Free foam grades accept solvent, UV, and eco-solvent inks without pre-treatment. The surface is ideal for large-format digital printing applications.
Stock items ship within 5–7 business days. Custom orders take 15–25 days production time. Sea freight from Ningbo to Middle East approximately 20 days; to Europe approximately 30 days.
Free foam (extruded) PVC board has a uniform cell structure throughout with a softer surface, density 0.40–0.55 g/cm³, and is ideal for advertising, signage, and digital printing. Celuka board (co-extruded PVC foam board) has a hard, dense PVC skin over a foam core, density 0.60–0.80 g/cm³, with a harder, more scratch-resistant surface. Celuka is preferred for furniture panels, cabinetry, and marine interiors where surface durability is critical.
Forex, Sintra, and Komatex are proprietary brand names for expanded PVC foam board from European manufacturers — sold at significant brand premiums. JINYOU manufactures equivalent free foam and Celuka grades in China with comparable density, closed-cell structure, and surface quality. We supply certified test reports for direct comparison and offer free samples so buyers can verify quality before placing orders.
FOB Ningbo pricing for standard white 3mm free foam grade (1220×2440mm) starts from approximately USD 2.50–4.50 per sheet in container quantities, depending on density specification and order volume. 5mm boards and Celuka grades carry a 20–40% premium. Custom colors add approximately 10–15%. Contact us with your exact specifications for a formal FOB/CIF quotation.
For best results: use a circular saw or table saw with a fine-tooth carbide blade (60+ teeth) at moderate feed speed. For thin boards (3–5mm), a utility knife with a steel rule scores cleanly. CNC routers with upcut or compression spiral bits produce the cleanest edges for complex shapes. Avoid high-heat cutting methods that can cause melting. Always cut with the smooth face upward to minimize surface chipping.
Yes. Standard PVC foam board has excellent UV stability for most outdoor signage and cladding. For prolonged high-UV exposure (tropical or desert climates), specify our Anti-UV grade which includes additional UV stabilizers. For marine and salt-air environments, Celuka grade is recommended for its denser, more impermeable surface. Water absorption is less than 0.5% — the board will not rot, warp, or corrode in wet conditions.
Our PVC foam board is produced under ISO 9001:2015 quality management. Products comply with REACH and RoHS directives. Zero formaldehyde emission is verified by third-party laboratory testing. Fire retardant grades meeting B1 and B2 fire classifications are available with supporting certificates. SGS, Intertek, or BV testing can be arranged on request to meet specific market import requirements.
